New glass and metal railings, glass stairs and glass walkways contributed to the overall sophistication and elegance of the auditorium, featuring a multi-purpose 1,759-seat performance hall, a 250-seat studio theater, and an outdoor performance plaza connected to the River Walk.

The players: Architect, LMN Architects; general contractor,  Linbeck Group and Zachry Construction Corporation Joint Venture; contract glazier, Butcher & Sons Steel Industries; glass manufacturers, PPG Industries, Pilkington NA; glass fabricators, Viracon, Precision Glass Bending, Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope, Walker Glass Co.; railing systems designer/manufacturer, Trex Commercial Products

The glass and systems: Trex Commercial Products provided ornamental railing for the Tobin Center. Using its ArchitectuRail glass railing product, the company contributed to the oval glass railing in the rotunda, the lobby drink rail, the glass stairs and the glass bridge. Viracon provided ½-inch laminated fully tempered Pilkington OptiWhite glass with an Arctic Snow Vanceva interlayer for the glass bridge. The rotunda features oval glass railings fabricated by Precision Glass Bending using ½-inch bent tempered safety glass. Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope fabricated 3,000 square feet of ½-inch and ¾-inch clear tempered PPG Starphire glass, providing custom shapes with polished edges, machine holes for handrail and standoff anchor points, for the stairs, overlook glass and lobby drink rail glass. The lobby drink rail tops feature ¾-inch Starphire Opaque glass, fabricated by Walker Glass.
